Veena issue affecting Asif`s World Cup preparations: Lawyer  Veena issue affecting Asif`s World Cup preparations: Lawyer
Veena issue affecting Asif`s World Cup preparations: Lawyer Mohammad Asif's lawyer has claimed that the Pakistani pacer's preparation for the Twenty20 World Cup is being hampered by the stress he is enduring due to the financial dispute with ex-girlfriend Veena Malik. "Yes there is no doubt Asif's preparations for the World Cup have been affected by this problem and he is feeling the strain," advocate Kamran Sheikh said. Sheikh also served defamation notices to Veena and two private television channels for making allegations of match-fixing against Asif. "Both the channels carried interviews of Veena in which she claimed that Asif was involved in match-fixing that is why we have served these defamation notices," he said. The feud between Asif and Veena has taken an ugly turn with the actress filing a petition in the Lahore High Court claiming that Asif had committed fraud and cheated her out of Rs 13 million. She has filed her petition for registration of a case against Asif that carries a prison term of three years. Asif has denied the charges and filed a counter writ petition in the court against Veena. So far, the Pakistan Cricket Board has refused to get involved in the matter with chairman Ejaz Butt insisting that it was a personal matter of the bowler. But another official of the board admitted that the coach and captain had spoken to Asif and advised him to negotiate a solution to the feud with Veena to ensure his complete focus on the World Cup in the West Indies. Meanwhile, Asif said he is confident that Pakistan would successfully defend the Twenty20 World Cup. "The training camp has been very good preparation for all of the boys" Asif said. "Yes it's been hard work, but I believe it will definitely benefit us ahead of the World Cup finals in the West Indies. The preparation for such an important tournament has to be spot on. "My objective is to outsmart the batsman, try and be one step ahead of your opponent. This form of the game is mentally very tough as a bowler and I always try to dodge the batsman," he added. He also said he had no fears bowling at anytime in the shortest form of the sport. "I am prepared to bowl whenever the captain or the team need me to. In 20-over cricket you know the batting side are looking to attack you continuously," he said.
